| Rhodium |
|
Rhodium is a silvery white, hard, non-reactive transition metal. Rhodium has a great similarity to other platinum metals such as platinum or palladium. This concerns for example the low reactivity characteristic of precious metals and high catalytic activity. Rhodium is therefore often in the form of alloys, primarily used as a catalyst. As an important component of automotive catalysts, it is used for the reduction of nitrogen oxides. Since the metal is very rare in nature and is widely used at the same time, it is one of the most expensive metals in general.
use The vehicle contains rhodium catalyst. Like other platinum metals rhodium acts as a catalyst in many processes. Both the metal and its compounds and alloys with other platinum metals are therefore used accordingly. There are also other rhodiumspezifische applications, its use is limited by the high price. The main applications of the rhodium catalysts are vehicle. It is used as a catalyst for the reduction of nitric oxide to elemental nitrogen. Instead, platinum or palladium would be used, would create increased ammonia and nitrous oxide. A portion of rhodium is used in catalysts for nitric acid production. In the so-called Ostwald process for the catalytic oxidation of ammonia to nitric oxide to networks which are composed of a platinum-rhodium alloy with about 10% rhodium. Through the use of rhodium, the durability and increased yield compared to pure platinum. Source: Wikipedia 2011
